Westchester County Inmate Search Overview
The county jail is run by the Westchester County Department of Correction. It sits in Valhalla on the Grassland Campus. The Department holds people with criminal matters pending in the county, and it splits into a Jail Division and a Penitentiary Division. The Jail Division houses people 16 and older. That includes men accused of a crime or awaiting sentence, plus women who are accused, awaiting sentence, or sentenced to one year or less. The Penitentiary Division houses men sentenced to one year or less. The Department is accredited by the American Correctional Association.
The official inmate lookup is the first stop for a Westchester County inmate search. It covers people in county custody. The jail warns that not all people show up. Someone may be left off for security reasons or because of the type of custody they are in. That is normal. It does not mean the person is not there.
The county jail roster does not list everyone in the justice system. State prison inmates are held by New York DOCCS, not the county. Federal inmates are held by the Bureau of Prisons. So a person moved upstate or into federal custody will drop off the county tool. Use the right system for the right type of custody, and you will get a clean result.
Start your Westchester County inmate search at the official Westchester inmate lookup page.
That page is the one official tool for a county jail roster check, and it links out to phone help when the search comes up empty.
How to Use the Westchester County Jail Roster
A roster search is quick. Have a full name ready, and a date of birth if you can get one. The jail also runs a phone line for help when the online tool does not show the person. That line can confirm bail status, bail amount, the arresting agency, and visiting details.
- Open the official Westchester inmate lookup on the Department of Correction site.
- Enter the person's name as the tool asks.
- Review the result for custody status and any listed details.
- If no record shows, call the jail information line at 914-231-1000 for bail status, the arresting agency, and visiting info.
- To set up release alerts, register with VINE by phone at 888-846-3469 or online through VINELink.
The phone line is useful when the roster hides a record. Staff there can speak to bail and visiting questions that the online tool may not show.
Westchester County Jail Roster Search Fields
The official inmate lookup page was located during research, but the search-field labels were not exposed in the fetched page content. So the exact on-screen fields are a research gap. What is documented is the phone and VINE path that backs up the online tool. The table below lists the search routes the Department of Correction itself names.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online lookup fields | Unknown | Unknown | Official page located, but field labels were not visible in the captured content. |
| Inmate information phone | Phone path | No | 914-231-1000 can give bail status and amount, arresting agency, and visiting info. |
| VINE by NYSID, name plus DOB, or DIN | Phone / online path | One identifier | Get NYSID or DOB from the District Attorney, then call VINE or use VINELink. |
The jail FAQ explains why the online roster can miss people, so the phone line is the backup for any Westchester County inmate search.
For the rules on inmate information and money, read the Department of Correction FAQ.
What a Westchester County Inmate Record Shows
A live sample inmate profile was not accessible during research, so the field list here comes from what the jail FAQ says is public. That FAQ states the information line can release a set of basic facts about a person in custody. The table sets out those fields and what each one tells you.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Bail Status | Whether bail is set, met, or still owed for the person in custody. |
| Bail Amount | The dollar amount of bail the court set on the case. |
| Arresting Agency | The police or law agency that made the arrest. |
| Visiting Information | Whether the person can have visits and the rules that apply. |
The jail also notes that some people will not display at all. That gap is built into the roster on purpose, so do not read a blank result as proof a person is not held.
Note: The online roster may omit a person for security or custody-type reasons, so a missing record does not always mean the person is not in the county jail.
Westchester County Jail and DOC Contact Card
The jail and the Penitentiary both sit on the Grassland Campus in Valhalla. People posting bail in person should use the GPS address and follow the route the jail gives. Mail goes to a separate post office box, not the street address. The contact card below pulls the numbers and address that the Department of Correction lists.
Westchester County Department of Correction
Mail: Inmate's name, PO Box 10
Valhalla, NY 10595
Jail information: 914-231-1000
Bail information: 914-231-1020
In-person bail posting: 24/7
Bail Visitor Access Point
GPS for bail visitors: 10 Woods Road

Use the Eastview exit, Route 100C, off the Sprain Brook Parkway.
Park in the visitor lot at Grasslands Road and walk to Post 1.
The Jail Division and the Penitentiary Division share this campus. The street address is for visitors posting bail; written mail must go to the PO Box.
Why Some Westchester County Inmates Do Not Appear Online
The roster is not a full list of every person in the building. The Department of Correction states plainly that not all people in custody will display. A person can be left off for security reasons. A person can also be left off because of the type of custody they are in. New intakes may also lag before they post.
This is where the phone line earns its keep. Call 914-231-1000 and staff can speak to bail status, bail amount, the arresting agency, and visiting info. That covers most of what families need to know on day one. For release timing, the VINE service is the better tool, since it can send an alert the moment a person is let go.
A person can also vanish from the county roster because they moved. A transfer to state prison puts them under New York DOCCS. A federal hold puts them under the Bureau of Prisons. Each system has its own search. The county tool only covers county custody.
Posting Bail at the Westchester County Jail
Bail can be posted in person, by phone, or online. In-person bail for both men and women runs around the clock, 24/7. The person posting must be 18 or older and must show a valid government photo ID with a current address. P.O. box addresses are not allowed. Only one person may enter the jail to post bail. Bring the right ID and go alone.
The jail takes cash in U.S. currency or major credit cards in person. It does not take bail bonds. Bonds must be posted at the court of record instead. So if you are working with a bondsman, that paperwork goes to the court, not to the Valhalla jail.
One detail needs care. The official page gives two different credit-card limits for in-person bail. One spot says credit-card bail is accepted for bails of $20,000 or less. Another spot on the same page says the facility limit is $10,000. Treat this as an official-page inconsistency. Call the jail first before you rely on either number. It is the only safe way to know the current rule.
Important: The jail's own page lists two different credit-card bail limits, $20,000 in one place and $10,000 in another, so call 914-231-1020 to confirm the limit before you go.
For phone or internet credit-card bail, the steps are stricter. Call 914-231-1020 first to get a JID number, the court name, the court docket number, the charges, and the cash-bail amount. Then call 877-392-2455 or use the GovPayEXP / GPS service. Phone and online credit-card bail is capped at $2,500. Note that the inmate is checked for active warrants or legal holds, which can delay or block release even after bail is paid.
See the official Department of Correction bail-posting page for the full steps.
That page lays out the entrance route, the ID rules, and the warning that the jail does not accept bail bonds.
VINE Release Notifications for Westchester County Inmates
VINE is a free service that tracks custody and sends release alerts. It runs around the clock in English and Spanish. The service covers convicted felony offenders in New York DOCCS custody and people in Westchester County DOC custody. If an inmate is moved, you must register again with a new VINELink entry, since the old one will not follow the transfer.
To use VINE, first get the right identifier. Contact the prosecuting District Attorney's Office to get a NYSID number or a date of birth. Then call 888-846-3469, also written as 888-VINE-4NY. Provide a NYSID, a full name and DOB, or a DOCS DIN. To register for alerts by phone, give a notification phone number and pick a four-digit PIN. The system will then call when the status changes.
You can also use the service at the VINELink website, and the county explains its setup on the Westchester VINE information page. For a deeper look at release verification, see released inmates.
Mail and Phone Rules for Westchester County Inmates
Inmates cannot get phone calls or messages at the jail. They place outgoing calls instead. For an emergency or a death in the family, contact the shift supervisor and they will relay the news. Phone service runs through GTL. To set up a collect-call account, call 866-230-7761 or write to the Advance Pay Service Dept., Department 1722, Denver, CO 80291-1722. A Phone Block Form is available if you want to block collect calls.
Mail must use the right address format. Write the inmate's name, then PO Box 10, Valhalla, NY 10595. Photos, letters, and greeting cards can be sent through a direct print service at westchestercountymail.com. Some content is barred. The jail will not deliver photos that show the inside of the facility, nudity, gang signs, or illegal activity.
The official inmate phone page covers the GTL account setup in full.
Review the inmate phone system page for the calling rules.
It explains that inmates place calls out and cannot receive them, and how to fund a collect-call account.
Commissary and Inmate Funds at the Westchester County Jail
Money for an inmate can be left a few ways. A valid photo ID is required to leave money or property. TouchPay kiosks sit in the jail lobby for both men and women, open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Online deposits run through TouchPay 24/7 with a major credit card. Commissary gifts can be sent online by credit card through the iCare and Aramark service.
Packages have their own window and rules, covered in the visitation schedule below. The female acceptable-package list spells out what gets through and what gets turned away. Carriers like UPS, FedEx, and Express mail packages will not be signed for, so plan around that.
For the package rules, see the official female inmate acceptable-package list.
That page lists the return-address and postage rules and the items the jail will not accept.
Westchester County Jail Visitation and Package Hours
Visits are limited to two visitors total per visit, and that count includes children. Inmates get two visits per week, and one of those may fall on a weekend or a recognized holiday. Only one of the two weekly visits can be on a weekend or holiday. Physical contact is held to a brief embrace and kiss at the start and end, under staff watch. No hand-holding, handshakes, or passing infants during the visit. Trying to bring in contraband can end the visit, and can lead to arrest and prosecution.
| Service | Schedule / Rule | Provider / Location |
|---|---|---|
| In-person money deposit | Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. | TouchPay kiosks in jail lobby |
| Online money deposit | 24/7 | TouchPay portal |
| Package window (morning) | Monday-Friday, 9-10:45 a.m. | Jail package area |
| Package window (afternoon) | Monday-Friday, 1:30-4:30 p.m. | Jail package area |
| Visits | Two per week; one may be weekend or holiday | Westchester County Jail |
| Visitors per visit | Two total, including children | DOC visitation policy |
| Commissary gift | Online by credit card | iCare gifts / Aramark |
The package window is closed in the middle of the day, from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All items are searched by hand, by electronic scan, and by fluoroscope. No food, no alcohol, no tobacco, and no illegal items get through.
For the visit-related procedures, read the official Department of Correction visit page.
It sets the visitor limits, the contact rules, and the warning that contraband ends a visit.
Contacting the Westchester County Department of Correction
Some questions are not answered by the roster or the phone line. The Department runs an online contact form for those. All fields on the form are required. It is not for emergencies. For an urgent safety or medical concern about a person in the jail, call the supervisor line at 914-231-1020 instead.
The general jail information line, 914-231-1000, handles the day-to-day questions about bail, the arresting agency, and visiting. Keep that number close during any Westchester County inmate search.
Use the official Department of Correction contact form for non-urgent questions.
The form notes that every field is required and that it should not be used for emergencies.
